When you create a LinkedIn company page you now have the default option to assign a LinkedIn Vanity URL / pretty link that is human readable, which in this case is your company/brand name. However, LinkedIn Company pages that were created earlier may only have a numeric ID (LinkedIn Company identification number) assigned, which is inconsistent with unified branding and also looks horrible on brochures, business cards, leaflets etc.

Keep in mind that each LinkedIn Company Page has two unique identifiers: an identification number (which can’t be changed) and a vanity URL (which can be changed). Think of them as an “address” and a “name”. Both identifiers can be used to direct traffic to your Company Page. However, following a vanity URL change request, any traffic directed to the old vanity URL will be rejected, as the page no longer lives under that “name”. You can always point to the “address” because the identification number never changes.

How to request an update to your LinkedIn Company URL
Within the company page admin, there is no discernable way to update the LinkedIn company URL to the Vanity URL that represents your actual company name, but thankfully help is at hand with LinkedIn Help and I must say that they are remarkably responsive.
Here’s what you need to do
Visit LinkedIn Help at the following URL:-
Send LinkedIn a nice vanity URL change message to request an update from a numerical ID Company Page URL to a new Vanity URL. Here’s the format we used:-
Hi, We would like to customise the URL to our LinkedIn Company Page. Our company name is: Enter your Company Name My company email address with admin rights to our company page is: Enter your LinkedIn Admin Email (your profile email) The existing URL to our LinkedIn Company Page is: https://www.linkedin.com/company/586632 (update to your company numeric ID shown on your existing LinkedIn Company URL) I would like the URL to be: https://www.linkedin.com/company/mycompanyname Thanks in advance Your Name https://.your-url.com

All you need to do now is await the LinkedIn representatives response to your Company URL change request. In our case, this was promptly actioned within 24 hours, but of course, this may vary based on the level of requests LinkedIn are receiving. Your request may be unsuccessful if you are not conforming to the LinkedIn User Agreement
