Best Free Snippets Manager

We use GitHub for all our code repositories, but it’s not always a convenient method of managing your snippets. The simplest way is often the most direct and that’s on your PC / Mac or Linux Machine, but they are very limited free options here, especially cross-platform. You will be happy to hear that a great Free Snippet Manager is available and it allows you to effortlessly manage your public and private GitHub repositories. To date, { Gisto } is hands-down the best free GitHub Gists based snippets manager that we have encountered and we use it on a regular basis.

{ Gisto } is a code snippet manager that runs on GitHub Gists and adds additional features such as searching, tagging and sharing gists while including a rich code editor.
All your data is stored on GitHub and you can access it from GitHub Gists at any time with changes carrying over to { Gisto }.

Standalone Snippets Manager

If you’re on a Mac then you may be familiar with Codebox and that’s a stellar option for managing your own snippets independent of a larger repository like GitHub. We built up a huge repository via CodeBox and it only costs $9.99 with all the expected features, but we’re not exclusive to Mac now and prefer the direct link to GitHub. We like to share our snippets and from Codebox 1.5 you can now do that, but we just prefer keeping everything on GitHub from outset.

If you have your own favourite snippets manager then let us know in the comments below.
